Tal Canetti - Violoncello and Bass Violin - historical performance practice specialist
After finishing her studies at the Rubin Academy at Tel Aviv University with great praise under the guidance of Prof. Shmuel Magen, the cellist Tal Canetti continued her studies in the Netherlands, focusing on and specializing in historical performance. She gained her further degrees from the Utrecht School of the Arts under the guidance of Prof. Viola de Hoog and finally from the Royal Conservatory of The Hague under the guidance of Prof. Jaap ter Linden. Throughout her studies, Tal was supported by the American-Israeli Cultural Foundation, as well as the prestigious scholarship for studies abroad. Enriching her educational experience, Tal participated in many masterclasses with renowned musicians and cellists, among them Anner Bylsma, and took part in chamber music and orchestral workshops, including the Verbier Festival Orchestra, under the baton of Zubin Mehta, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Kent Nagano, and Kurt Masur. Later, she led the cello groups in Netherlands-based orchestral workshops held by, among others, Ton Koopman, Elizabeth Wallfisch, Ryo Terakado, Christopher Hogwood, and Philippe Herreweghe.
As an active chamber musician, during the years following her studies, she performed with many ensembles around Europe and Israel, including live recordings for the Israeli classical music radio "Kol HaMusika." Tal was a founding member of the Da Fusignano Trio and the Petrarca Duo with the pianist Walewein Witten, with which she performed recitals including at the famous Early Music Festival in Utrecht in 2004.
Tal's professional orchestral experience started at a very young age. At only 18 years of age, she was the youngest member of the new Israeli Chamber Ensemble and the Ramat Hasharon Chamber Orchestra, with which she toured Israel, Europe, and China.
Following her specialization in historical performance, Tal was invited to perform in many renowned ensembles such as Concerto Köln, Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Florilegium Musicum, Concerto Barocco, Das neue Orchester, Il Gardellino, Düsseldorfer Neue Hofmusik, Bach Orchestra of the Netherlands, The Mozart Akademie, Concerto Amsterdam, and Brabants MuziekCollege.
She recorded for Deutsche Grammophon for the album "Amoureuses" as part of the Concerto Köln ensemble and recorded an album of J. S. Bach Cantatas with maestro Ton Koopman as part of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.
Since 2017, Tal has been a member of the Barokopera Amsterdam company, with which she performs regularly as a cellist and as a Basse de Violon specialist, and has toured Holland and France.
During the 2019–2020 season, she performed in the Concerto Köln production of the Rodelinda Opera, the Stuttgart Chamber Orchestra, and the Holland Opera company. Tal is a devoted pedagogue. During her studies at Tel Aviv University, she had the privilege of studying cello pedagogical methods under the guidance of Prof. Uzi Wiesel and Prof. Shmuel Magen.
In recent years, Tal built an extended class of cello students in Utrecht, dedicated to teaching cello to talented young students and promoting cello and music education for highly motivated adults.
